Alexandra Föderl-Schmid
Alexandra Föderl-Schmid (born 1971) is editor-in-chief of the daily “Der Standard” in Vienna. She read Journalism, Political Science and History at Salzburg University, simultaneously attending Journalistenschule in Wels, today’s OÖ Journalistenakademie. Between 1988 and 1990 she was a freelance journalist with the weekly “Mühlviertler Rundschau” before moving to “Der Standard” in 1990; after an initial stint again as a freelance reporter in Linz and Vienna, Föderl-Schmid was the paper’s correspondent in Germany from 1993 to 1998; she was then in charge of the Foreign Policy desk for two years before going back to Germany as a correspondent. In 2005 she exchanged Germany for Belgium to become the paper’s EU correspondent. In 2006 she was put in charge of the Business Section, and in 2007 she became editor-in-chief of “Der Standard”.
