Rudolf Taschner
Born in Ternitz, Lower Austria, in 1953, Rudolf Taschner read mathematics and physics at Vienna University. Since 1977 on the staff of Vienna University of Technology, where, with an interlude at Stanford, he is a professor today. Together with his wife Bianca and colleagues from TU Vienna Taschner is the founder of “math.space” in Vienna’s MuseumsQuartier that attracts more than 30,000 visitors a year. Its aim is to increase public awareness of mathematics as a cultural achievement. In 2004 Taschner was voted Scientist of the Year by the Klub der Bildungs- und Wissenschaftsjournalisten and nominated Communicator of the Year by the Public Relations-Verband Austria in 2007.
