Staying in the air for 10 hours on one litre of fuel and cover more than 1,000 km?

Staying up in the air for a long time and covering long distances using next to no fuel – all this is well within the reach of an experienced glider pilot. What role the sun plays in this and where modern aerodynamics and metereological and geographic knowledge come in will be graphically demonstrated at the Kepler Salon presentation at the Linz gliderport.

Participants will be given an opportunity to gain first-hand experience of the routine operation of a gliderport. There will be opportunities to try out what sitting in a glider feels like and to actually touch one; the most common take-off techniques will be demonstrated as well as the mode in which a flying school operates. Finally the history of gliding in Linz will be touched on.

The presentation takes place at Flugplatz Linz-Ost (LOLO), Am Tankhafen 13, 4020 Linz.

A location map is available as a download.

In case of bad weather the presentation will be switched to Sunday, 23 August 2009.
