Georg Steker

Georg Steker (born 1973) graduated in Economics and History from Vienna University. Having been a member of the boys’ choir Wiener Sängerknaben in his childhood, he also continued his voice studies first at Konservatorium der Stadt Wien; he graduated from Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien. In 2005 Steker completed a diploma course for cultural management at the Institut für Kulturkonzepte, Vienna. After a career as a soloist at concerts and in opera productions, particularly in the area of ancient music, e.g. at Pfingstbarock of the Salzburg Festival, Sommeroper Hohenegg, “Feist” at Vienna’s Künstlerhaus, etc.) and as co-organiser of concerts and opera productions (Konservatorium der Stadt Wien, Attersee Klassik, Musikuniversität Wien) he has now switched to being a full time cultural manager. He initiated and co-founded the “progetto semiserio” opera company. Between 2004 and 2006 he was an assistant to the artistic director of Neue Oper Wien and to the artistic director of Schauspielhaus Wien, where he became head of Künstlerisches Betriebsbüro in 2007. For Linz09 Steker works as a producer in the areas of Performing Arts and Music.
