Richard Picker (born 1933) read theology at Vienna University, from which he graduated in 1965. He was appointed minister to the Academic Community, chaplain and Professor of Religious Pedagogy. Eventually he asked to be defrocked in order to marry. Picker then trained as a psychotherapist and maintained a practice in Linz until 1978, when he relocated to Vienna. He is engaged in further education and in the training of pychotherapists. His latest publications are Das Ende vom Lied (Czernin, 2007) and Exorzismus war gestern – Psychotherapie als Entdämonisierung (Kösel, 2009).
