Arnold Hanslmeier

Arnold Hanslmeier (born 1959) read Astronomy and Physics in Graz and graduated in 1982. After spells as a researcher in Germany, the United States and France he habilitated in 1991. In 2005 he was appointed professor of Computational Astrophysics at Karl Franzens Universität Graz. He is the director of the Department of Geophysics, Astrophysics and Meteorology of the Institute of Physics and the deputy director of that Institute. Since 2000 he has also been a visiting professor at the Université Paul Sabatier in Toulouse. He has thirty observation spells to his credit (including the Observatoire de Haute Provence, France, the Observatoire Pic du Midi, France, the Observatorio del Teide and the Observatorio Roque de los Muchachos, Spain) as well as 250 scientific papers and seven books, including three popular science ones. Since 2005 he has been president of the Joint Organization of Solar Observation JOSO, vice president of the Österreichische Astronomische Gesellschaft and a member of the New York Academy of Sciences.
