Wahrnehmung?Kepler Salon Extra: Resources without borders? Remittances, linkages and ties with home among Zimbabwean migrants in the SADC region
Remittances are an important part of the migration experience, specifically, of the migration experience in the SADC (Southern African development Community). For example many Zimbabweans migrated within the SADC and maintained strong links and ties with kinship group members at home, a process which involves exchange of remittances, but also the exchange of a much broader range of tangible and intangible resources. Specifically, based on research in Botswana, Swaziland and Zimbabwe, this paper considers: the range of material and non-material resources associated with migration; the manner in which those resources result from and are influenced by family and kinship ties; and the ways to which migrants and non-migrants contribute to the sets of resources that arise in the context of migration.
